A look inside the 'SSW
Forest' with Ecologi

At the beginning of this month, we brought you the news that Smith Stone Walters has partnered with Ecologi to help offset our company’s carbon usage and become a ‘climate positive workforce’. Through this new partnership, SSW will plant five trees for every visa instruction we receive.

At SSW, we understand that we need to take action now if we want to reduce the impact of climate change and preserve our planet for future generations. We have therefore set ourselves a business goal to plant 250,000 trees by 2030.

Our new climate positive scheme has already received some great feedback from our staff and clients alike, many of whom have been keen to learn more about the project and how their immigration cases are having a direct positive impact on the environment.

Keep reading to find out how our tree planting project works, how it will help the planet and where in the world our trees are being planted.

About Ecologi

Ecologi is an environmental organisation based in the UK that funds reforestation projects. Through the collective action of its members, the platform has enabled over 28 million trees to be planted and over a million tonnes of CO2 reduced since early 2019.

Ecologi works with tree planting partners who will responsibly plant the trees on our behalf. The project also provides fair-wage employment by hiring local villagers to grow, plant and guard the forest restoration sites, providing a consistent income to poverty-stricken communities.

Ecologi also invests its members’ money into a broad range of carbon reduction projects that are certified at the very highest level by Gold Standard and equivalent.

Growing the SSW Forest

To date, we have planted 1,750 trees in the ‘SSW Forest’ thanks to our clients’ visa instructions. A virtual depiction of our real-life trees can be viewed on our Ecologi profile here.

So far, the SSW Forest contains trees of various native species which have been planted in Madagascar and Mozambique. These countries are chosen as vast areas of the original forests there have been destroyed in recent years.

Alongside our trees, our funding has also directly supported other global climate projects, including preserving over 27,000 hectares of Amazonian rainforest in Brazil and generating solar power in Tamil Nadu and Telangana, India.

How to get involved

If you like the sound of our tree planting project and want to get involved, there are two ways you can help:

  • Engage SSW for all your immigration needs. By instructing us on your immigration cases, your visa applications can directly contribute towards reversing climate change.
  • Set up your own individual or business account with Ecologi. Speak to us for more details on starting your own tree planting project.
