Once you have lived in the UK legally for a certain amount of time, you may be eligible to apply for settlement if you wish to stay here permanently. There are many different pathways to settlement in the UK, depending on your circumstances. Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) gives you the right to live, work and study in the UK for as long as you like. Once you have obtained ILR, you can use it to apply for British citizenship.
