UK left hanging after general election

There has been no overall winner in yesterday’s UK general election.

As the results were declared in the early hours of this morning, it became clear that the Conservative Party had lost its governing majority despite increasing its share of votes across the country.

Labour enjoyed a more successful evening and looks set to pick up 29 seats whilst the Conservatives will lose at least 12. This has closed the gap between the two leading parties and has led to no overall winner and a ‘hung’ parliament for the UK.

A jubilant Labour party has declared it is ready to form a minority government. Mrs May appears intent on providing a ‘period of stability’, however, and will ask permission of the Queen later today to form a Conservative government.
