Poland: Latest immigration changes

The Polish government has recently introduced a number of important regulatory changes that may impact foreign nationals living and working in Poland.

This immigration update contains essential information on residence certificate exchange obligation for EU citizens, upcoming legislative reforms affecting foreign nationals and employment services, and the planned increases in Poland’s minimum wage and hourly rate.

Important update on Residence Certificates for EU citizens

Please be advised that certificates of residence registration for EU citizens issued in paper form before 1 August 2021 remain valid until 3 August 2026.

It is recommended that EU citizens who have not yet exchanged their certificates visit the Voivodeship Office to apply for a replacement in the form of a plastic card.

Upcoming legislative changes affecting foreign nationals

The government is preparing significant amendments to the Act on Foreigners and related regulations, as well as the Act on the Labor Market and Employment Services.

These changes aim to simplify entry and residence procedures for foreign nationals, align Polish law with EU standards, and adapt public employment services to the evolving labor market. Employers should prepare for major changes in residence and employment regulations for foreigners.

Minimum wage and hourly rate increase for 2025

Starting 1 January 2025, the minimum monthly wage will increase to 4,666 PLN gross. The minimum hourly rate will also rise to 30.50 PLN gross.
