October 2014: changes to migration and nationality fees

The Home Office has announced changes to some fees for migration and nationality applications which should be applicable from 1 October 2014.

As of this date, a new Administrative Review fee of £80 for applications made within the UK will be payable. This is to replace the current right of appeal for many in-country immigration decisions, and will confirm whether or not the fee will be payable or refunded.

The changes also include the expansion of the list of application routes which require a fee for the process of enrolment of a person’s biometric information. This will now include: applications for EEA residence cards, permanent residence cards and derivative residence cards and applications for registration or naturalisation as a British citizen (all at £19.20).

Only some of these amendments will apply from 1 October 2014, though some of the new fees will come into effect later in 2014, so as to align with changes to processes.
