Criminal record checks for Tier 2 applicants
Some Tier 2 General applicants must now undergo criminal record checks as part of their UK visa application.
A new rule recently introduced by the Home Office requires Tier 2 visa applicants looking to work in certain UK sectors to provide a criminal record certificate as part of their UK visa submission.
Those currently affected are Tier 2 General applicants with roles in the health, social and education sectors, but there are plans to extend this visa requirement to cover all roles applied for under Tier 2.
The same requirement is also applicable to any adult dependant wishing to accompany a main Tier 2 visa applicant during their stay in the UK.
The certificate(s) must cover a period of ten years directly prior to the submission of the Tier 2 visa application. If an applicant has lived in multiple countries during this time, a certificate must be provided for each country in which the applicant has resided for 12 months or more.
This is just one of the many changes made recently to the UK Immigration Rules which will affect both UK visa applicants and their employers over the year to come.
