New Immigration Rules expected this November
The much anticipated changes to the UK’s Immigration Rules are expected to be confirmed this November.
The government’s intended amendments to the UK’s immigration legislation were announced earlier this year, with confirmation of the exact changes to be delivered on 6 October 2016. This date came and went, however, and the resounding silence has left many UK employers with nothing to do but to wait.
The anticipated amendments to the UK’s Immigration Rules would substantially affect Tier 2, the UK’s skilled worker category, and consequently the recruitment strategies of many UK businesses.
The changes which are expected later this autumn include:
- A higher minimum salary threshold for Tier 2 general applicants
- The closure of the Tier 2 Intra-company Transfer (ICT) Skills Transfer route
- The inclusion of Tier 2 ICT applicants in paying the Immigration Health Surcharge
- The introduction of new measures to better facilitate the hiring of graduate migrants

It is anticipated that April 2017 will see further changes being made to the Tier 2 skilled visa system. With the government’s attention fully absorbed by the issue of Brexit, however, these changes may not be announced until much later.
