MAC proposes increased salary thresholds for Tier 2 employees
The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has been asked by the Home Secretary to review the Tier 2 points-based system, splitting the review into two main parts:
- Early advice on Tier 2 salary thresholds
- A wider review of the Tier 2 routes
The MAC has therefore issued a call for evidence from all interested parties, including sponsor organisations, relating to the first part of this commission.
In particular, the MAC is interested in collecting opinions and evidence on the following proposals:
- Increasing the minimum salary thresholds for Tier 2 (General) and Tier 2 ICT (Short-term and Long-term) visa categories to levels that better align with salaries paid to highly-specialised experts or individuals filling skill shortages; and
- Increasing the Tier 2 minimum salaries per occupation for experienced workers and for new entrant workers.
The MAC is keen to hear views and to receive evidence from partners to help inform its advice to the Home Office, which must be submitted by July 2015.
Any responses must, therefore, should be directly sent to MAC by Friday 3 July 2015. Details of how to do this are outlined in the Call for evidence document, along with what kinds of information the MAC would find helpful to receive.
