Government issues Brexit FAQs
The government has issued its answers to the most frequently asked questions about the UK’s departure from the European Union.
The Brexit FAQs outline the government’s appraoch towards a range of legislative areas including migration, the single trade market, and EU funding projects.
The message is plain. The UK is heading for a clean cut away from the European Union which the government intends to negotiate as an ‘agreement between an independent, sovereign UK and the EU’ which has no bearing on the Norwegian or Swiss model.

What this will mean for the UK’s immigration system is still very much in a state of flux. The Brexit FAQs emphasise that Government departments are currently working on developing a fair and controlled solution but nothing concrete has been announced.
The government is keen to stress, however, that the rights of European Economic Area (EEA) nationals in the UK have not changed as a result of the referendum and will not do so until a formal exit from the EU is made. UK Prime Minister Teresa May has made clear that she wishes to protect the UK rights of these citizens as best she can.
And yet there is no guarantee that this will be possible in light of the UK’s strong desire to control EU immigration. EEA nationals in the UK can (and should) take steps towards protecting themselves and their families, therefore, ahead of a ‘hard-line’ Brexit.
