Find your nearest approved TB test centre
If you are applying for a UK visa from outside the European Union, the chances are that you will need to take a tuberculosis (TB) test in order to enter the UK.
You will only be required to prove yourself free of tuberculosis if you are a resident of one of these listed countries and will be spending longer than six months in the UK.
Tests consist of a chest x-ray which checks for signs of the illness. If the results are not clear then a second check will be required.
Who does not need to be tested?
There are certain persons who are exempt from having to take a TB test and these exceptions are as follows:
- You are a diplomat accredited to the UK;
- You are a returning UK resident and have not been away for more than two years; or
- You lived for at least six months in a country where TB screening is not required by the UK, and you have been away from that country for no more than six months.
Children are not exempt from taking a TB test and all children from any of these listed countries must see a clinician who will decide whether or not they need to have a chest x-ray.
Where can I take my test?
If you are eligible to take a test, it must be done at an approved TB test centre. To find your nearest test centre please click on your country of residence.
Once you have taken your test and received results showing that you are clear of TB, you will be issued with a test certificate which must be included in your UK visa application whilst it is still valid. Certificates will remain valid for a period of six months only.
