Employers: new minimum salary for Tier 2 hires
As of October 2016, UK employers of international professionals will need to ensure that any new Tier 2 (General) hire meets a new minimum salary requirement.
Amongst other changes which are being made to the UK immigration rules this autumn, the minimum salary requirement for applicants of the Tier 2 (General) visa category will be substantially increased.
The threshold for Tier 2 (General) hires is currently set at a minimum of £20,800, but will be raised to £25,000 in October this year and then again to £30,000 in April next year.
This increase will not apply to certain public sector roles such as nurses, paramedics and teachers until July 2019 when the exemption will end.
The minimum salary for New Entrants, (Tier 2 (General) applicants who are either under 26 years of age, are transferring from a Tier 4 visa, or have been hired through a milkround recruitment process) will remain at £20,800.
Employers of non-EEA nationals in the UK should therefore ensure that consideration for this extra cost is made in their recruitment strategy well ahead of this change in UK immigration legislation.
