Immigration charges: Chief Inspector call for evidence

The Independent Chief Inspector for Borders and Immigration, David Bolt, has made a formal call for evidence into how much the Home Office charges for its services.

The inspection’s purpose is to understand the reasons why the fees have been set at the specific rates, and decide whether the Home Office is providing an efficient and effective immigration processing service in return.

For instance, it could cost a family of four up to £11, 996 to attend the Home Office and apply for UK residency.

The inspection will also look at the relationship between the standard and the more expensive premium services, to learn more about how each route is resourced and managed. The optional super-premium service costs £10,500, and the International Contact Centre charges £5.48 per email enquiry, or £1.37 per minute for their telephone helpline.

The Chief Inspector wishes to hear from any individuals who may have been dissatisfied with the service that they have received, and he will assess whether the agreed service levels are actually being met.
