Rainbow Trust fundraising football match

Last month, our colleague Phill Allcorn braved the freezing conditions and dressed up as George from children’s TV classic series Rainbow to support The Rainbow Trust at their annual football fundraiser. Once he had thawed out, he gave us his post-match report:

‘It was on a chilly afternoon in Tunbridge Wells in March that the Royal hosts welcomed both Bearsted FC and The Rainbow Trust to the Culverden stadium,’ Phill said.

‘I welcomed the crowd of around 200 with an enthusiastic wave and a shake of my charity bucket. The fans made their way through the turnstiles, hoping to see their team grab the three points they desperately craved.

‘I didn’t mind the cold temperatures, as my pink George costume was thick and heavy. At one point, a local dog took a particular interest in one of the furry legs. Luckily for me, the rather excited hound made a quick getaway!

‘The Tunbridge Wells players were also in a charitable mood, it would have appeared,’ continued Phill. ‘They managed to score an impressive three own goals for the visitors, contributing to a 4-1 defeat.’

He added, ‘The crowd left the stadium muttering to themselves and feeling rather unhappy with the performance they had just witnessed. But as George, I was on hand again as they departed, handing out free consoling hugs and shaking my charity bucket once again.

‘My collection went well, as I raised over £200 for the Rainbow Trust.’
