Benefits of migration officially recognised
The positive contribution of migrants around the world has been recognised at a recent conference on financing development which took place last week in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
Along with deciding upon a series of bold steps by which global financial practices will be overhauled, the conference has recognised that migration mostly incurs sustainable and inclusive economic growth for a migrant’s country of origin, country of transit and country of destination.
The conference ended with the signing of the Abbis Ababa Action Agenda which outlines the outcomes of this Third International Conference for Financing Development.
The agenda was signed by heads of state and government from all over the globe and as such, is a strong indication that the way which the international community handles migration is changing.
This strong signal from world leaders, however, has yet to filter through the media and meet the wall of anti-immigrant feeling currently prevalent in the UK. In order to truly tackle this problem, some have called for solid policies by which the better integration of migrants in the UK will be encouraged.
