20,000 trees planted in SSW’s partnership with Ecologi
Smith Stone Walters is delighted to announce that we have now reached another milestone in our partnership with Ecologi, and have now planted 20,000 trees to date.
At SSW, we are passionate about our planet and want to do our bit to help reverse climate change. For this reason, we have pledged to plant five trees for every visa instruction we receive. As a business, our goal is to plant 250,000 trees by 2030.
To help us achieve our goal, we have partnered with Ecologi, an environmental organisation based in the UK that funds climate projects worldwide. Ecologi works with tree planting partners who responsibly plant the trees on our behalf. The project also provides fair-wage employment by hiring local villagers to grow, plant and guard the forest restoration sites, providing a consistent income to poverty-stricken communities.
Our impact
So far through our climate project, we have planted 20,000 trees and offset 90 tonnes of CO2e. That’s equivalent to:
- 69 long haul flights
- 270 metres squared of sea ice saved
- 223,290 miles driven in a car.
Our funding has also helped to support other climate projects run by Ecologi across the globe, including:
- Wind power projects in Mexico, Honduras, Vietnam, Thailand and South Africa.
- Solar power projects in Egypt, Vietnam and India.
- Preserving over 27,000 hectares of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil.
- Preventing deforestation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Using waste biomass to produce electricity in Chile.
