brazil technical
assistance visa
Introduction
Brazil’s Technical Visa or Technical Assistance Visa allows an individual to carry out technical visits for maintenance, installation of equipment and the transfer of external technology to the service of Brazilian companies.
It is awarded to technicians, engineers and specialised foreign manpower. This visa does not involve an employment relationship between the professional and the Brazilian company. The professional maintains their bond as an employee of the foreign company they represent, or their country of origin in which they were hired.
Eligibility requirements
The eligibility for a Technical Assistance visa is dependent on the unique skills or knowledge the foreign professional brings, which should not be readily available in the Brazilian Labor Market.
How much it costs
The visa fee is paid by online transfer to the Embassy’s bank account after the Embassy has received the visa application and all the relevant documents. Please note that visa fees are not refundable.
The current fees for this category are as follows (fees may change at the discretion of the authorities):
- United Kingdom (up to 180 days): €110
- United Kingdom (more than 180 days): €236.50
- United States: €319.00
- All other countries: €110.
How to apply
Technical Assistance Visas are subject to prior approval by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The process must be initiated in Brazil by the sponsoring company (on behalf of the applicant), with submission of the application and all supporting documentation to the Ministry.
Once the procedure in Brazil is concluded and approved, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security will transmit the authorisation to the Embassy via the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only then can the applicant proceed with the visa application by requesting an appointment at the Embassy.
Processing times
The processing time for a Technical Assistance Visa in Brazil varies depending on the Embassy.
Holders of this type of visa must register with the Federal Police within 90 days from first entry in Brazil.
How long you can stay
This visa generally allows for a stay of up to one year, with possibilities for renewal depending on the nature of the technical assistance provided.
Permitted activities
This type of visa allows specialists to perform specific, short-term tasks for a Brazilian company under a technical cooperation agreement or service contract.
Administrative, financial and managerial functions are excluded from the concept of technical assistance.
