New UK visa fees from 6 April 2022

The Home Office released an updated list of immigration and nationality fees yesterday (6 April 2022) which includes price increases for several key visa categories.

Work visa fees

From 6 April, fees have increased by £15 compared to the old fee for the following work visa categories.

Applications made outside the UK:

  • Skilled worker (up to 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £625
  • Skilled Worker (more than 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £1,235
  • Skilled Worker – Shortage occupation (up to 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £479
  • Skilled Worker – Shortage occupation (more than 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £943
  • Skilled Worker – Health and Care Visa (up to 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £247
  • Skilled Worker – Health and Care Visa (more than 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £479
  • Skilled Worker – Shortage Occupation – Health and Care Visa (up to 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £247
  • Skilled Worker – Shortage Occupation – Health and Care Visa (more than 3 years) – main applicant and dependants – £479
  • Temporary Work – Seasonal Worker, Religious Worker, Charity Worker, Creative Worker, International Agreement, Government Authorised Exchange and Youth Mobility Scheme – main applicant and dependants – £259
  • Innovator – main applicant and dependants – £1,036
  • Start-up – main applicant and dependants – £378
  • Global Talent – main applicant – where Approval Letter is required – £167
  • Global Talent – main applicant – where Approval Letter is not required – £623

Fees for new work routes

This spring, the Home Office is introducing several new immigration routes as part of its plan to help UK businesses attract the best and most promising international talent. The new categories include five ‘Global Business Mobility’ routes for overseas businesses wishing to establish a presence in, or transfer staff to the UK for specific business purposes, the ‘High Potential Individual’ route for graduates of top global universities, and the ‘Scale-up’ route for talented individuals recruited by a UK Scale-up sponsor. The updated list includes the application fees for these new categories, as follows.

Applications made outside the UK:

  • Global Business Mobility routes (from 11 April 2022)
    • Senior or Specialist Worker – up to 3 years – main applicant and dependants – £625
    • Senior or Specialist Worker – more than 3 years -main applicant and dependants – £1,235
    • Graduate Trainee – main applicant and dependants – £259
    • Service Supplier – main applicant and dependants – £259
    • UK Expansion Worker – main applicant and dependants – £259
    • Secondment Worker – main applicant and dependants – £259
  • High Potential Individual – main applicant and dependants (from 30 May 2022) – £715
  • Scale-up – main applicant and dependants (from 22 August 2022) – £715

Student visa fees

Fees for sponsored study visas have also increased as follows.

Applications made outside the UK:

  • Student – main applicant and dependants – £363 (up from £348)
  • Child Student – £363 (up from £348)
  • Short term student studying English language for more than 6 months but not more than 11 months – £200 (up from £186).

Applications made in the UK:

  • Student – main applicant and dependants – £490 (up from £475)
  • Child student – £490 (up from £475).

Sponsorship fees

Employers will be pleased to note that sponsorship fees, such as the cost to apply for a new sponsor licence and the fee to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) to a worker remain unchanged.
