Brexit talks begin!

Formal negotiations facilitating the UK’s exit from the European Union have begun today, with Brexit Secretary David Davis stating that the UK is entering negotiations with a ‘positive and constructive’ frame of mind.

As part of the lengthy task ahead of him Davis intends to build a ‘strong and special partnership’ with the EU over the course of the discussions, so that both sides emerge stronger and more prosperous than before.

‘I want to reiterate at the outset of these talks that the UK will remain a committed partner and ally of our friends across the continent.’ – David Davis, Brexit Secretary

He also placed importance on working towards an outcome which protects the security of European citizens, promotes shared values and supports the UK and EU as committed allies.

The UK’s Parliament will sit for two years instead of the usual one, in order to give MPs enough time to ‘fully consider the laws required to make Britain ready for Brexit’.
