SSW is taking climate
action this Earth Month

Earth Day takes place on 22 April each year, but the entire month of April – sometimes called ‘Earth Month’ – is a time where environmental issues take centre stage.

This year’s theme is “invest in our planet”, highlighting the importance of dedicating our time, resources, and energy to solving climate change and other environmental issues by calling on both businesses and individuals to contribute to a more prosperous and equitable future through collective action for change.

Here at Smith Stone Walters, we are passionate about doing our bit to help combat climate change, and over the last year in particular we have been working hard behind the scenes to improve our climate credentials as a business.

In December 2021, we formed a partnership with Ecologi, an environmental organisation based in the UK, to help us work towards becoming a climate positive workforce. Through this partnership, SSW plants five trees for every visa instruction we receive. Our goal as a business is to plant 250,000 trees by 2030.

Our progress so far

This April, in honour of Earth Month we have been taking a look back at our tree planting progress so far. To date, our client instructions have funded a total of 38,010 trees and offset 105 tonnes of CO2e. That’s equivalent to:

  • 81 long haul flights
  • 315 metres squared of sea ice saved
  • 260,505 miles driven in a car.

Our funding has also supported 17 climate projects around the world, including:

  • Producing electricity from wind power in Northeast Thailand
  • Generating renewable solar electricity in Egypt
  • Avoiding methane emissions from landfill in Brazil
  • Preventing deforestation in the Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Conserving rainforest in the Western Amazon.
