Climate positivity is on the
agenda for SSW in 2023
18 January 2023
January is traditionally the time of year for setting new goals and better intentions for the year ahead. Alongside the usual ‘new year, new me’ health and fitness kicks and Dry January challenges, a growing number of people are considering the health of the planet as well as their own this year.
Here at Smith Stone Walters, we are passionate about our planet and we want to do our bit to help tackle climate change. For this reason, a key business goal for this year is to continue working towards becoming a climate positive workforce.
In December 2021, we partnered with Ecologi to help us improve our climate credentials as a business and as an employer. Through this partnership, we plant five trees for every visa instruction we receive. Through our reforestation project, we are aiming to plant 250,000 trees by 2030.
Our progress so far
To date, we have planted 32,750 trees and offset 105 tonnes of carbon. That’s equivalent to:
- 81 long-haul flights
- 315 metres squared of sea ice saved
- 260,505 miles driven in a car.
We are delighted with our progress so far, and we look forward to growing our business and planting more trees in 2023.
Why tree planting?
When it comes to building a more sustainable future for our planet, even the smallest actions can collectively make a huge difference. Take tree planting for example: a single tree may not be able to offset a significant amount of carbon by itself, but a whole forest can.
In fact, it’s now common knowledge that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising is to plant trees. For this reason, we have partnered with Ecologi to help us achieve our climate action goals.
Ecologi is an environmental organisation based in the UK that funds reforestation projects worldwide.
Ecologi works with tree planting partners who will responsibly plant the trees on our behalf. The project also provides fair-wage employment by hiring local villagers to grow, plant and guard the forest restoration sites, providing a consistent income to poverty-stricken communities.

If you’ve been inspired by our new venture or you just love trees like we do, we’d love you to join us. You can make a positive difference by:
- Engaging SSW for all your immigration needs: By instructing us on your immigration cases, your visa applications can directly contribute towards reversing climate change.
- Growing your own forest: Join us by setting up your own individual or business account with Ecologi. Speak to us for more details on starting your own tree planting project.
