New
Director General
for UK Passport Office

The former manager of Royal Mail International has been appointed as the new Director General of Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO). Mark Thomson will take up the fixed, three-year contract in the spring of this year.

HMPO ceased to be an Executive Agency in October 2014 and was made directly accountable to Ministers by being brought into the Home Office. Mr Thomson’s appointment comes as part of the changes after the post of Chief Executive was abolished and replaced by that of a Director General.

It is hoped that Thomson’s appointment, along with other new measures, will improve the output of HMPO after the excessive delays experienced by passport and passport renewal applicants throughout 2014.
