Update for UK visa applicants
in Ukraine

Since January 2022, the build-up of Russian forces at the borders of Ukraine has increased the risk of military action.

Due to the growing threat, the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is currently advising against all travel to Ukraine. British nationals in Ukraine are advised to leave now whilst commercial means are still available.

The FCDO has also taken the decision to temporarily withdraw some Embassy staff and their dependants from Kyiv. The Embassy remains open but will be unable to offer in-person consular assistance. If you are in need of assistance to leave Ukraine, you should call +380 44 490 3660 or +44 (0)1908 516666 and select the option for ‘consular services for British nationals’.

Is the UK visa centre in Ukraine open?

The UK Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv remains open. The centre in Kyiv is run by TLScontact, a commercial partner engaged by the Home Office to manage UK visa services overseas.

Due to the uncertain nature of the situation, the visa centre’s opening schedule may be subject to change at short notice. For this reason, customers are advised to check the VAC’s website here before travelling to an appointment.

‘Keep my passport’ service

The VAC in Kiev is currently offering a ‘keep my passport’ service for applicants at a reduced price in case there are any closures at short notice. Using this service allows visa applicants to keep their passport whilst they are waiting for a decision on their application.

By choosing the ‘keep my passport’ service, your access to your passport will not be impacted by any potential travel restrictions, and you will have the security and reassurance of knowing you have it with you if needed.

If you combine this service with Express Courier Return, you will not need to return to the VAC a second time, reducing the number of trips you need to make. It should be noted that this service cannot be combined with any Priority service type.

The cost to use the ‘keep my passport’ service is currently UAH 1,500 (usually UAH 2,400), and payment can be made online or onsite. More information can be found here.
